Custom career sites

Written by Fredrika

With custom career sites, you build your own web page with your vacancies, without needing a web developer. You choose colors, fonts, images and texts, and the list of vacancies updates automatically when you publish ads in Talent Hire. You can link to the career site or embed it on your own website.

Note! Career sites is an add-on that comes at an extra cost. You buy a set number of career sites that can be created on the account. Contact your account manager at Visma if you want to activate the feature or add more sites.

Overview

The editor has three parts: the toolbar at the top, the sidebar on the left and a preview of the page in the middle.

Good to know before you start

  • You need the user right Recruitment - Administer career sites. The right is set per organisation, so different companies or departments can manage their own career sites without access to each other's.

  • Each career site belongs to one organisation. The list of vacancies shows ads published to the channel External homepage for that organisation and its sub-units.

  • The career site feed is created automatically and is not shown among your job lists.

  • A career site has one language. If you need sites in several languages, create one site per language.

  • Most changes show directly in the preview, but visitors only see them when you click Publish.

  • Career sites are built following the WCAG guidelines, so that all candidates can use them, also with a keyboard or a screen reader.

  • Have your logo, favicon and images ready before you start. The favicon must be a .ico or .png file of 256 KB or smaller.

Step by step

Step 1: Create the career site

  1. Go to Admin > Career sites.

The Admin menu with the Career sites menu option highlighted, next to Job lists
  2. Click Create career site.

  3. Select the organisation the site will show ads for. You only see organisations you have access to.

  4. Enter a name for the career site (100 characters at most). The name becomes the title of the site, and you can change it later in the editor.

  5. Click Create. A feed for the organisation's ads is created automatically, and the editor opens.

The Create career site dialog with the Organisation and Name the career site fields and the Create and Cancel buttons

If you have already created as many career sites as your agreement includes, a message tells you that the limit is reached. You can then delete an existing site or contact Visma to extend your agreement.

Step 2: Set up the general settings

  1. In the sidebar, under Customise > General, select the Language. The language decides the language of the published site.

  2. Enter the Site name (100 characters at most). It is shown in the browser tab.

  3. Click Upload image under Favicon and select the icon from your computer. The favicon is shown in browser tabs and bookmarks.

Step 3: Choose colors and fonts

  1. Under Styling, choose colors with the color picker or by entering a HEX code:

    1. Primary color is the background color of the header and footer, and the color of the button to apply, among other things. The text color in the header and footer switches automatically between dark gray and white to keep the text readable.

    2. Secondary color is used for smaller details, for example the circle behind the number of vacancies.

    3. Background color is the color of the page background.

  2. Choose a font and font size for each text style: Title, Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3 and Body text. You can choose between 10 fonts. The setting applies to all text in that style on the whole page.

Step 4: Add and arrange blocks

  1. Click Add content block under Content blocks.

  2. Click the layout you want to use. The block is placed directly below the block you last worked in.

  3. Click a block in the preview to select it. A blue frame appears around the block and a menu appears on the right.

  4. Select Move up, Move down or Delete in the menu. If an option is grayed out, it cannot be used for that block.

Step 5: Write texts and add images

  1. Click a text that says [Click to edit] and type your text. A toolbar gives you bold, italic, underline and alignment. In body text you can also add lists and indents.

  2. Click Select image in an image area. Select an image from the picture bank, or upload a new image from your computer.

The Select an image dialog with images from the picture bank and an area for uploading new images
  3. To change an image, hover over it and click Select image again.

A text field holds a limited amount of text. If you write too much, a message tells you how much is allowed.

Step 6: Choose what the list of vacancies shows

  1. Go to Settings in the sidebar.

  2. Under Layout, choose whether the page has a header and footer (Show header, Show footer).

  3. Under Vacancies, choose what visitors can search and filter on: Show search field, Show municipality filter, Show organisation filter and Show employment scope filter.

Step 7: Check the page

The toolbar with the Undo, Redo, Desktop, Mobile, Preview, Publish, Save as draft and Cancel buttons
  1. Use the toggle in the middle of the toolbar to see the page as it looks on desktop and mobile.

  2. Click Preview to open the page in a new tab, as candidates will see it. The preview does not save anything.

  3. If you make a mistake, click Undo. You can undo the last 10 changes, also with Ctrl + Z (Cmd + Z on Mac). Redo brings back a change you have undone, as long as you have not made a new change.

Step 8: Save or publish

  1. Click Save as draft if you want to continue later. The button is only available until you have published the site the first time.

  2. Click Publish when the site is ready, and confirm. A message tells you that the site has been published.

  3. You return to the list of career sites. The link to the published site is under Feed, and Status shows whether the site is a saved draft or published.

The Administer career sites list with the columns Career site name, Organisation, Feed, Status, Edit and Delete

You can update and publish the site again at any time. If you click Cancel with unsaved changes, you are asked whether you want to save them.

Add the career site to your website

You can use the published career site in two ways:

  • Link to the site. Copy the link under Feed in the list of career sites and link to it from your website, intranet or social media.

  • Embed the site in an iframe. Add the same link in an iframe on your own website. The career site is then shown directly on your page.

Note! It is always the whole career site that is linked or embedded. You cannot link to or embed only one block or part of the site. If you want the embedded site to show mainly the list of vacancies, you can hide the header and footer under Settings > Layout.

Frequently asked questions

Why is an ad not shown on the career site? The career site shows ads published to the channel External homepage for the organisation the site belongs to, and its sub-units. Check that the ad is published to that channel and belongs to the right organisation.

Why do visitors not see my changes? The changes are only visible after you click Publish. Neither Preview nor Save as draft affects the published site.

Can I embed the career site on our website? Yes, as an iframe. See Add the career site to your website above.

Can I have the career site in several languages? Each career site has one language. Create one site per language, for example one in English and one in Swedish.

Why can I not delete the Vacancies block? The list of vacancies is the purpose of the career site and cannot be removed. You can move the block up or down among the other blocks.

Why is the Add content block button grayed out? The page has reached the limit of 10 content blocks. Delete a block if you want to add a new one.

What happens if I delete a career site? You are asked to confirm before the site is deleted. Both the site and its feed are removed.
